What is the Purpose
of the PTA?
PTA
is a national, grassroots, not-for-profit organization;
neither the organization nor its leaders make any profit
or receive any financial benefit from PTA activities.
Our local
PTA brings programs and activities to Green Gables that
might not otherwise occur. Through our volunteer and
fundraising efforts, PTA supports athletics, music,
field trips, art, science, reading programs and the
library.
PTA also works to enhance friendship and fun at Green
Gables with staff appreciation events, 5th
grade celebration, auction, roller skating nights and
the annual carnival.
PTA parents support our talented teachers with extra
help in the classroom. Volunteers decorate bulletin
boards, run photocopies, run the Math Facts program, read with and encourage
children and anything else teachers might need.
The possibilities for PTA are endless. We welcome
volunteers with ideas, a little time and a lot of heart
who can enrich our children’s (and their parents') lives.
What are the benefits of membership?
Study after study has
shown that parent involvement is key to student success
in education. When you are involved with PTA, you get
to know our teachers better; you become more familiar
with Green Gables and what happens there.
While children cannot
vote and do not participate in the legislative process,
WA State PTA speaks for the interests of all children
and their health, welfare, safety, and education.
Whether in Washington DC, Olympia, or in our own city
government offices – everywhere decisions are made that
affect your children, PTA is there speaking on behalf of
all children. Green Gables has a voice in WA State PTA
and our voice is made stronger relative to the number of
PTA members in our organization -- the higher the
membership, the higher the number of votes we can cast
on behalf of our Green Gables children.
